Growing up in the Richmond, VA area, I attended Henrico County Public Schools, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, and VCU. In 1966, I worked for a major tax chain preparing 1965 income tax returns and saw many people losing too much of their hard-earned income because they did not thoroughly understand our complicated tax system. As the daughter of a clergyman, I had been taught concern for others throughout my life. Learning our tax laws and how to best apply them to individual situations in order to help the average worker legally keep as much of his money as possible became my goal.
After the 1966 tax season, I worked for a public accounting firm for some years and then opened Grace Goodman Bookkeeping and Tax Service in Richmond. I sold this business and moved to the Newport News area when I married David Robelen in 1976 and family became my first priority. While raising our six children I still regularly attended tax schools and seminars, and each year I prepared tax returns for a select few friends and relatives in order to stay current on tax issues. In 2003 and 2004 with most of the children grown, I again worked for a local tax chain, preparing a vast variety of returns, and attended college classes to update my computer skills. In 2004 I applied to take the Enrolled Agent exam. Even though I was allowed three years to pass all four parts of the 2 day, 14 hour test, I was able to pass the entire test on my first attempt.
I began A-Plus Bookkeeping & Tax Service when our youngest child left for college in the fall of 2004. In May, 2005 I received my Certificate of Enrollment from the Internal Revenue Service, making me Enrolled Agent Number 81967.
Throughout the year, I provide bookkeeping services for area small business, preparing all their required tax returns (income, payroll, property, sales, etc.) and providing current financial information for them. Additionally, I prepare annual individual and business income tax returns, as well as gift, estate, and trust returns.
My goal remains to help my clients earn and keep as much money as is legally possible.
